What to Do in St. Louis This Weekend

Grab your beads and clear your Saturday—it’s finally Mardi Gras this weekend! But if massive crowds aren’t your thing, there are plenty of other wonderful events around the city to add to your weekend. Make your way to the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra’s Black History Month concert, two exhibition openings and a workshop hosted by The Women’s Creative. And don’t miss the landmark Broadway production “Rent” at The Fabulous Fox Theatre this weekend only!

Artist talk with Derek Fordjour

The Contemporary Art Museum is hosting an artist talk with  the globally celebrated artist behind the exhibition “Derek Fordjour: SHELTER,” currently on view at CAM through Sunday, April 19. Fordjour, whose work has been shown around the world (and even been purchased by rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z) will be in conversation with CAM’s chief curator, Wassan Al-Khudhairi. The event is free, but CAM asks guests to register ahead of time online.

The Women’s Creative workshop

Join the women of The Women’s Creative for an Etsy SEO and Marketing Workshop for Female Creatives this Thursday, Feb. 20, from 6-9 p.m. at Golden Gems on Cherokee Street. This workshop covers everything from insights into Etsy’s algorithms and search engine optimization  rankings to ways to improve branding for your Etsy store. Guests can network and mingle from 6-7 p.m., with the workshop running directly afterward from 7-9 p.m. Tickets for in-person attendance and livestream viewing are available for purchase online.

Black History Month Celebration

To commemorate Black History Month, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra presents “Lift Every Voice: Black History Month Celebration” this Friday, Feb. 21, at 7:30 p.m. The concert features SLSO accompanied by the IN UNISON Chorus performing a range of soulful music that celebrates and honors African American music and history. Immersive sculpture at Bonsack Gallery

Bonsack Gallery presents “Shifting Densities,” a solo exhibition by artist Kelsie Ward this Friday Feb. 21, with an opening reception at 5:30 p.m. Currently based in St. Louis, Kelsie Ward showcases her stunning immersive sculpture works at the gallery through Wednesday, April 1.

Two openings at Houska Gallery

‘Rent’ at The Fabulous Fox Theatre

Soulard Mardi Gras 2020

The second-largest Mardi Gras celebration in the country is back this Saturday, Feb. 22, in Soulard from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Spend your Saturday enjoying one of the city’s most festive days of the year with drinks, music and a whole day of fun. The centerpiece is the Bud Light Grand Parade at 11 a.m. with the theme of the Blues in celebration of the team’s winning the Stanley Cup.
