Urban Chestnut Ushers in Spring with Beer Festival Maifest 2018

 In Culture, Event

Beginning as early as the 1880s, Maifest began as a German festival celebrating the transition from winter to spring, and St. Louis is certainly in need of such a celebration. After a long and grueling winter, city dwellers can come out of hibernation to partake in Urban Chestnut Brewing Company’s (UCBC) Maifest 2018 from noon to 10 p.m. on May 12, at the Midtown Brewery and Biergarten.

Complete with live music, food and a variety of beer offerings, the festival is a perfect way to kick off the warm weather finally enveloping the city.  Keeping with the tradition of historic Maifest celebrations in Bavaria, which often includes a serving of Bock Biers–strong beers of German origin that are enjoyed during the spring transition–UCBC has collaborated with Mondo Brewing Company in London to create its very own. There will also be experimental beers fit for spring on hand from the Urban Research Brewery, including Tea Lemonade Ku’damm, Prickly Pear Ku’damm Bock, Mint Julep Barrel-Aged Daft and Tamarind Thai Basil Schnickelfritz.

Those seeking to get active before the festival are invited to join the county-to-city bike ride that will lead them directly to the biergarten. UCBC has partnered with Trailnet–a St. Louis-based organization dedicated to improving equitable and safe transportation–to host the ride, inviting attendees to join them anywhere along the trek.

No tickets are required for entry into the festival, but attendees can choose to buy beer and food tickets for $6, or a package for $18, which includes a commemorative glass and three beer and food tickets.

When: May 12, 12-10 p.m.
Where: Midtown Brewery and Biergarten (3329 Washington Ave.)
