A Night at the Brewseum: The History of Beer Advertising in St. Louis

A Night at the Brewseum returns on June 13 with a focus on the history of beer advertising. Panel members include historians from the Missouri Historical Society and David Wolfe of Urban Chestnut Brewing Company, plus one of St. Louis’ best-known advertising industry veterans, Charlie Claggett Jr.

During his tenure at local agency D’Arcy from 1972 through 1999, Claggett rose through the ranks to become the managing director and chief creative officer after starting out as a writer on ad campaigns. He worked on a number of Anheuser-Busch beers, including Budweiser, and he was a writer on the team that came up with the iconic slogan “This Bud’s for You”—one of the many highlights in a career that yielded more than 80 national and international creative awards.
