A Conversation With The Women Behind The Vault Luxury Resale

 In Sponsored, Style

We caught up with Sue McCarthy, Diana Ford and Laura Maurice, the women behind The Vault Luxury Resale boutique, to find out what makes them tick. During our fun conversation, we also learned why their successful brand is such a beloved stop for St. Louis shoppers.

What songs might you hear if you walked into the store?
Music has everything to do with our vibe: You can’t serve wine and champagne in silence. You might hear anything from Madeleine Peyroux’s “Dance Me to the End of Love” to Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean.” We love upbeat tunes and are always turning the volume up. If our founder,Sue McCarthy is on the floor during a good song, she will break out and dance!

What do you think sets The Vault Luxury Resale apart from other boutiques?
Our mission statement is the following: “The Vault is a gathering space that nurtures women through fashion and inspired events.” We think that says a lot about who we are and how we run our business. We are not just selling things. We are so much more.

How would you define your personal style?
Sue McCarthy: Regal jackets befitting the queen of “Resale Royalty.”
Diana Ford: Fit and are and tailored. Anything green. Always statement shoes or rings.
Laura Maurice: Hippie, feminine, glamorous. You won’t find an LBD in my closet. Nothing tight, everything flowy, flared and long.

What would we find you doing on a Saturday off in St. Louis?
We love to be in our stores on Saturdays. It’s an amazing vibe between us, our staff and customers. We have hundreds of people, many of them regulars, who come in just to hang out with us or their girlfriends. There are many Saturdays you might find more foot traffic here than major high-end department stores.

How do you curate the items and brands you sell?
We have 15,000 suppliers from all over the world that send us items, and we look at 1,000 items a day in our store alone. We work with stylists from Los Angeles to New York and everywhere in between, which nets us great items for our customers. The last way we curate is our in-home, white-glove closet buys. This is when a high-end client invites us to come in to their home and buy what they no longer need. We don’t kiss and tell, but if our handbags could talk …
We have created an environment where we are trusted buyers and suppliers. We buy items outright, without consignment and waiting periods, so people from all over use our services. We also have become experts in authentication and guarantee 100 percent authenticity on everything that we sell.

What’s your favorite fashion decade?
The ’70s of course! They nailed it—especially for women. We cannot live without flared pants. We are obsessed.

If you could switch closets with anyone dead or alive, who would it be?
Laura Maurice: Rachel Zoe, hands down. Again with the flared pants. Obsessed.
Sue McCarthy: Doris Day
Diana Ford: I would love to have Audrey Hepburn’s.

How does The Vault Luxury Resale give back?
We are firmly rooted in the belief that, as a business, you must give back to your community. We take that responsibility seriously and give all that we can. We recently gave $10,000 to the Saint Louis Fashion Fund, a cause very near and dear to us. This season, we also have given to Helping Hand-Me-Downs, Institute for Family Medicine, Forest Park Forever, World Pediatric Project and National Council of Jewish Women, as well as many individuals throughout our community.
