What To Wear To Hot List With 5 Local Bloggers
Last Friday local bloggers and Cortona at Forest Park residents mingled around Cortona’s pool to preview the gorgeous space we will all be partying at next Saturday, May 31 at the Hot List Party. We sampled drinks and snacked on appetizers while we dipped our toes in the warm water.
We couldn’t resist grabbing a few photos of some local fashion-forward bloggers. They were eager to let us in on a few tips they draw on when preparing for a special event.
Wale Soluade of A Curated Man came dressed in a pool-side casual outfit perfect for day or evening. Styling is “All about the jacket,” he says, “jackets should be a staple.” He also advises to understand what is appropriate for the situation.
“You never want to be the guy under-dressed. That said, you never want to be over-dressed either. Google menswear blogs like The Style Blogger to research what is appropriate.”
Fashion blogger, Julia Christensen of Oh, Julia Ann came dressed in shorts, a sheer floral top and army green jacket. She dressed up her look with booties and gold accessories. When preparing for a special event, Christensen suggests consulting the forecast.
“It’s important to think about the weather. Think about the wind, direct sunlight, rain,” she says. Christensen also suggests being ready to have your photo taken when preparing for a special event. We agree that people of all style profiles look better when confident and well prepared.
St. Louis fashion blog, Style Every Day, is powered by Rachael Powell. Fresh from the salon, Powell came dressed in a pleated faux leather skirt paired with a lacy tank that she shared was actually a peplum top.
We caught up with Powell for a quick lesson on making your party outfit more interesting.
“Wear a peplum top under a skirt to make it more full and accentuate your waist,” she advises. “I would also suggest mixing materials. Today I’m wearing a little bit of leather, a little metal, a little lace.”
We also adore the way she finished off her outfit with purple and pink accessories. It was definitely a great, polished look.
Bradley Johnson, local musician and contributor to lifestyle blog, The Daily Wild , brought his cowboy rocker style with him to the Cortona happy hour on Friday night.
Dressed in salmon colored jeans, a checkered button down, cowboy boots and aviator sunglasses, Johnson commented that style should reflect personality.
“I dress to reflect the way I feel. Personal style is important. When I have trouble deciding on an outfit I sometimes consult The Sartorialist, a popular street style site,” he says. It’s clear that bloggers find inspiration from other bloggers.
Love Style Transform is the fashion blog of local style maven Brittany Williams. She arrived at the happy hour in black heels, an acid wash pencil skirt, graphic tank, head scarf and gold accessories. Brittany believes that party style starts with the shoes.
“Choose your shoes first. You can always create a look after that. The worst thing would be to have a bad outfit and great shoes,” she explains. We agree!
