What to Wear: Saint Louis Fashion Fund Gala
The Saint Louis Fashion Fund is hosting its inaugural gala at Union Station on Oct. 17, with funds benefiting the launch of a fashion incubator in Downtown St. Louis. The event is sure to be one of the hottest of the year with a guest list that includes fashion designer Timo Weiland, St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay, renowned designer Stan Herman, Jerry Schlichter of Arch Grants, Kitty Ratcliffe of the St. Louis CVC, Saint Louis Art Museum Director Brent Benjamin and more. Gala Chairs are Atul and Anjali Kamra, and the Dinner Chair is Jan Goldstein. The event is the first of its kind hosted by the new 501c3, Saint Louis Fashion Fund, whose mission is to support emerging designers and promote fashion education and outreach.
So, what do you wear to a black-tie gala that will be attended by the most fashionable philanthropists in town? Here are a few ideas:
This navy deco chevron gown with black fringe trim from Saint Louis Fashion Week featured designer Yigal Azrouël is a showstopper on its own. Keep the accessories simple, but similarly architectural to let the dress shine.
Build your look around a statement necklace, which takes center stage in this look. Its drama, paired with luxe velvet, makes a short dress gala-worthy.
A long silk skirt, like this one from Tess Giberson—another featured STLFW—is a style chameleon. For the boho gala attendee, pair it with a shaggy vest from Lanvin and a bootie for an alternative to a gown.
Finally, men’s black tie-style doesn’t have to be boring. Add a touch of whimsy with an embroidered jacket and skull cameo cufflinks.
