This weekend marks the arrival of two highly anticipated annual celebrations: Derby Day and Cinco de Mayo. The rain looks to be clearing out for Derby-inspired parties and the city’s biggest Cinco de Mayo festival and parade, plus a huge beer tasting, two neighborhood music festivals and more.

St. Louis Microfest Beer Festival

Microfest, one of the region’s largest craft beer festivals, lands at The Muny in Forest Park this weekend for its 24th year with three sessions over the course of two days. Get unlimited beer samples from a long list of participating breweries, including Brooklyn Brewery, Elysian, Founders and St. Louis gems like Urban Chestnut and 4 Hands. All proceeds benefit local nonprofit Lift for Life Gym.

When: May 3 from 6-10 p.m., May 4 from 1-5 p.m. and 6:30-10 p.m.

Maplewood String Fest

More than 20 businesses throughout Maplewood will host 30 musicians this Friday evening in a celebration of local flavor and talent. Meander down Manchester and be sure to snag a cocktail from The Crow’s Nest or a beer from Schlafly Bottleworks.

Dog Day Fridays

Dog Day Fridays at Urban Chestnut Brewing Company in The Grove are a sure sign that summer is fast approaching. Each year, UCBC partners with Purina to support local St. Louis shelters twice a month. Bring your furry friends to the brewery’s east lawn for ice-cold UCBC beer, hotdogs and brats, games, a photo booth and adoption events.

When: Every first and third Friday through summer from 4:30 p.m. to dusk

Sunset at the Sheldon wine and beer tasting

Head to the observation deck at The Sheldon concert hall and art galleries in Grand Center on Friday evening for the 20th annual wine and beer tasting, featuring live music, hors d’oeuvres, a rich lineup of wine and craft beer and a silent auction. Proceeds from the event go to fund the Sheldon’s inspiring educational programs.

When: May 3 at 6:30 p.m.

Live in the Sky: An intimate concert experience

We’re already obsessed with the Angad Arts Hotel in Grand Center for its creative décor and elevated, quirky vibe. Starting this weekend, the hotel hosts “Live in the Sky,” a summer concert series with intimate performances on the hotel rooftop, overlooking the city from 13 floors up.

When: May 3 from 6-10 p.m.

2019 PorchFest STL

For the third year in a row, PorchFest takes over the Skinker-DeBaliviere neighborhood for an afternoon of diverse local acts across 14 community stages. Fuel up on food truck row with grub from Guerrilla Street Food, Mission Taco Truck and other vendors. Take a short break from the music to shop an eclectic makers’ market or pick up band merch.

When: May 4 from 1-5 p.m.

Rosé Day in the CWE

Spring means rosé, and this Saturday, the Central West End transforms into a pink paradise for Rosé Day. Hop from patios to galleries to small businesses throughout the neighborhood to sample a bevy of rosé wine options and enjoy live entertainment, artwork, games and discounts. The celebration doubles as a fundraiser for several incredible nonprofits serving women and girls.

When: May 4 from 12-6 p.m.

Juniper’s Derby Day party

Head to Juniper restaurant on Derby Day for a special menu of Kentucky-inspired dishes and cocktails, like the Kentucky Bramble, the bar’s own special twist on the Mint Julep. Sample single barrel bourbon from Four Roses at the complimentary tasting table and place your bets before the race at 5:50 p.m. to win fun swag. Don’t forget to dress to impress.

Derby Day at Three Sixty and Gamlin Whiskey House

Don your fanciest hat to celebrate Derby Day at two local boozy favorites. Starting at 2 in the afternoon, Gamlin Whiskey House in the Central West End hosts a party on the patio with mint juleps, carriage rides, giveaways, contests and live music. At 3 o’clock, Three Sixty kicks off its own Derby shindig Downtown with small bites, specialty cocktails, a bourbon tasting, horse betting and a high-stakes best dressed contest. Tickets for the events can be purchased online.

Cherokee Street Cinco de Mayo and People’s Joy Parade 2019

One of our favorite annual community celebrations takes place this Saturday on Cherokee Street. The yearly Cinco de Mayo festival and parade draws 50,000 people to the neighborhood for three stages of live music, live Lucha Libre wrestling, bull riding, children’s activities, Latin American dance performances and more. Arrive before midday to catch (or join in!) the colorful People’s Joy Parade at 1:11 p.m., then fill up on tacos and fresh mango con chile.

Tower Grove East neighborhood-wide garage and yard sale

One man’s trash could become your treasure this Saturday at the annual garage and yard sale throughout the Tower Grove East neighborhood. Get sweet deals at more than 30 sales throughout the area.
