Urban Chestnut’s Wolpertinger Festival Unites 40 Breweries for the Ultimate Beer Day

 In Food, Sponsored

The holidays may have come and gone, but it’s not too late to get the perfect gift for the beer fan in your life—and yes, that fan can totally be you.

On Sunday, Jan. 27, Urban Chestnut Brewing Company will open the doors of their Brewery and Bierhall in The Grove to more than 40 of its St. Louis-area craft beer brethren for the Wolpertinger Festival, an epic celebration of the infinite variety of flavors in the craft beer universe and the stupendous community of people who make them.

If you’re wondering what all this has to do with the Wolpertinger—a mythical beast from Germany with wings, antlers, fangs and bunny ears, give or take a few other spare parts from around the animal kingdom–don’t think about it too much. Because like Wolpertinger itself, it’s a little hard to wrap your head around how complex and fantastic the St. Louis beer scene really is, unless you dive in and experience it for yourself.

Aside from tastings with all your favorite local brewmasters, your $40 festival ticket also includes access to samplings from special guest brewery Casey Brewing of Glenwood Springs, Colo., featuring its signature barrel-aged sour beers. Live music provided by St. Boogie Brass Band and UCBC food for purchase will round out the afternoon, along with the centerpiece event: the Wolpertinger costume contest. Time to open the costume closet and grab your deer antlers (and your squirrel tail, and your pheasant wings, and whatever else you’ve got lying around.)
