At the corner of Gravois and Allen in historic Soulard, the new Union Barbershop is home to five barbers that have left their respective stations across STL to join leader Megan’s team. Megan Nichols, known by her clients as @meganthebarber on Instagram, has cultivated a following that led her to open the space with Sean Baltzell, who’s work-wear apron company Knife & Flag leads seamlessly into classic fields including barbering.

The spacious 2-story building features a main barbers room located in front, a refreshment station in the back and Union Billiards–a relaxing area akin to a men’s club–taking up the rest of the first floor. “We like to keep things simple,” says Megan, “everyone should feel comfy and at home; take the time to come in an take it easy. There’s no such thing as a quick 10-minute haircut here.”

As far as specialties, the traditionally run shop offers all the basics: haircuts, hot shaves, mustache and beard trims, in addition to a line of STL-based men’s grooming products created in collaboration with Knife & Flag and Better Life. To view the space for yourself, stop by during their regular hours, Tuesday-Thursday 9am-7pm, Friday 9am-6pm, Saturday 8am-5pm. A grand opening event will be held on Dec. 12 from 7-11pm where prospective and current clients can meet the barbers, see the space and enjoy food and drinks by Seoul Taco and 4Hands with music by DJ Mahf. 1264 Gravois Ave.
