This Week's Dish: Gerard Craft Receives 6th James Beard Finalist Nomination
The James Beard Foundation Awards finalists were announced last week, with chef Gerard Craft of the Niche restaurant group as the only St. Louis-area name left on the ticket for the Best Chef: Midwest category. This is Craft’s sixth nomination.
The local chefs who were named semifinalists this year that didn’t move forward in the nominations for the Midwest category were: Kevin Nashan of Sidney Street Café and Peacemaker Lobster & Crab Co.; Ben Poremba of Elaia, Olio and Old Standard Fried Chicken; and Kevin Willmann of Farmhaus. Ed Heath, another area chef and co-owner of Cleveland-Heath, was also in the running with his first semifinalist nomination for Best Chef: Great Lakes. Chesterfield’s Annie Gunn’s was also recognized as a semifinalist for Outstanding Wine Program.
Winners will be announced at the 2015 James Beard Awards gala, which will be hosted by Alton Brown at the Lyric Opera in Chicago on May 4.
