This Week's Dish: Bixby's Introduces a Locally Inspired Winter Menu
Jan. 20: Dine with local influence at Bixby’s for the introduction of its new winter menu to keep you warm while enjoying the Forest Park view from the second floor of the Missouri History Museum. Start off your meal with some bison chili or a winter caesar salad made with a mix of hearty greens, bleu cheese, croutons and cumin papadum. Or try one of the new featured dishes, which includes a smoked salmon flatbread with herb béchamel, red onion, caper, arugula, house smoked salmon and everything vinaigrette; a brie and pear panini with cranberry orange chutney and arugula on country wheat bread; and a winter vegetable tart of roasted fennel, winter greens and butternut squash. Jan. 30 & 31: Get your drink on this weekend to celebrate Mardi Gras at the Wine, Beer and Whiskey Taste in Soulard Market Park. From 7-11pm, guests will enjoy unlimited sampling of more than 50 wines, beers and whiskey alongside some barbecue from STL’s hottest joints. Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the door. Keep the fun going on Saturday and watch 10 professional chefs team up with amateur chefs to compete for the grand prize at the Lumiere Place Cajun Cook-Off. From 12-4pm, guests will enjoy an open bar of Bud Light, Southern Comfort Hurricanes and a complimentary Cajun lunch while watching the chefs prepare their dishes. Tickets are $35 in advance, $45 at the door.
Feb. 6: Opera Theatre of Saint Louis will be presenting its 2015 Wine and Beer Tasting next month at the Sally S. Levy Opera Center from 6-8pm. More than 40 wines and beers will be offered for tasting, as well as a silent auction for rare wines, gifts and fine dining packages from local dining hotspots. Participating food and wine spots for the evening will include Cedar Lake Cellars, Pastaria, Robust Wine Bar, Baileys’ Chocolate Bar, Vin de Set and more, with proceeds benefitting Opera Theatre’s nationally recognized programs. Jan. 23-24 and Feb. 11: Broadway Oyster Bar will be hosting an Oyster and Crab Leg Fest featuring a specialty menu of dishes using the only the freshest of ingredients a spin on a few fan favorites in addition to the regular menu. There will be live music from Steve Bauer, Funky Butt Brass Band and more throughout the event. And since Mardi Gras will be taking the place of Valentine’s Day this year, the Downtown spot is making Wednesday, Feb. 11, a day to celebrate with its Unofficial Valentine’s Day. Feb. 21: Winery and event center Cedar Lake Cellars is hosting its monthly “Wine and Dine” dinner on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 7-10pm. The four-course meal includes Maryland crab mousse with black sea salt lahvosh paired with Trimbach Pinot Blanc, honey and chili rubbed lamb chops with house pickled sweet peppers on a bed of pecorino and cornbread pancakes paired with Animal Pinot Noir from Romania and more.
