The Peacock Loop Diner Lands On Delmar
Last Friday, Joe Edwards unlocked the doors to his latest Loop venture—a 24-hour diner featuring an expansive menu and an atmosphere unlike any other in St. Louis. The Peacock Loop Diner is located at 6261 Delmar Blvd. and is a part of the Lofts at Washington University, which is just a few doors down from Edwards’ other eatery, Blueberry Hill.
Hanging above the entrance is an 11-foot-wide neon peacock sign that welcomes guests as they walk into the diner. Inside, walls are filled with retro peacocks and other diner-era memorabilia that owner Edwards has collected for more than 15 years. Seating includes four, u-shaped diner counters; chrome-plated tables with vinyl-covered chairs, and spacious booths. For extra entertainment there are even two skeeball machines and a jukebox.
Being open 24 hours a day means that the menu at The Peacock Loop Diner has to cover all the bases, all the time. Every menu item is available 24/7, so there’s nothing wrong with ordering a late-night waffle or mid-morning milkshake. The breakfast menu features plenty of stick-to-your-ribs options like the “Finals Breakfast Sandwich,” which layers a fried egg, ham steak, bacon, house-made jam and sriracha sauce between two waffles. Burgers, sandwiches and salads anchor the rest of the menu with vegan, vegetarian and international options scattered throughout.
The milkshakes are not to be missed at The Peacock Loop Diner, where Serendipity Homemade Ice Cream serves as the base for mix-ins ranging from Oreos and M&Ms to fresh mint and marshmallows. Spiked versions are also available for the 21-and-over crowd, such as the “Savannah Smiles” made with Absolut Citron, Limoncello, vanilla ice cream and lemon. Specialty cocktails, draft and bottled beer and wine round out the alcohol selection while more than half a dozen varieties of pie wrap up the options for dessert.
Open Monday through Sunday 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. 6261 Delmar Blvd., The Delmar Loop, 314.721.5555.
