The American Way

Traditional workwear resurges this season, proving they actually do “make ’em like they used to.”

Call it “metro” backlash. For this season, both long-established state side labels and modern menswear designers went full-on rugged, referencing utilitarian fare once reserved for the blue-collar, on- the-clock set. Those prone to style nostalgia will be quick to scoop up their many new takes on workwear staples—including raw denim in classic Dockers dimensions, trucker jackets and sturdy, lace-up boots. Altogether, the trend reads as an ode to the type of durable, function-driven fashion established by Levi’s and synonymous with Carhartt—brands anyone dubbed “metro” could rightly wear, though they would definitely clash with the accompanying man bag.
