STL’s own Susan Barrett and Dorte Probstein are all smiles regarding their exciting venture, projects+gallery, which will open in the Central West End this month. The newest slice of the St. Louis art and fashion community aims to blur the lines between fashion and art.

The gallery, which will be launched in conjunction with Barrett Barrera Projects—the consulting venture from former World Chess Hall of Fame Director Susan Barrett—will feature national and international artists from a variety of mediums, in categories that include art, culture and contemporary fashion. Probstein, an avid St. Louis arts community supporter and board member for organizations that include Laumeier Sculpture Park and The Contemporary Art Museum, will serve as the director.

Projects+gallery will host their grand opening event on Friday, April 10 with their inaugural exhibit that will feature a solo retrospective of works by Paris-based artist and fashion designer Hideki Seo. The show, entitled “On My Way: Hideki Seo,” will include a series of large-scale sculptural works and key pieces from his career. Seo, who is the design assistant to French couturier Azzedine Alaia, was also featured in the world-renowned WCHOF exhibit, “A Queen Within.” “Through these works, I am considering the boundaries of art,” says Seo. “My concept is focused on life and death, and how differences between cultures and languages inform art.”

The grand opening event featuring Seo will take place on Friday, April 10 from 6-8pm at projects+gallery at 4733 McPherson Avenue in the Central West End.
