STLFW: The $25K Caleres Emerging Designer Award Has Been Announced
The search is on for the next budding designer: Caleres, formerly Brown Shoe Company, has officially announced the call for submissions for the $25,000 Caleres Emerging Designer Award, hosted by the Saint Louis Fashion Fund
The top six finalists chosen will showcase their collections on the runway during Saint Louis Fashion Week on Nov. 4 in front of a nationally recognized panel of jurors that will include Barneys Fashion Director Tomoko Ogura, CEO of La Force + Stevens James La Force, Co-CEO of Hilldun Corporation and Chairman of Interluxe Holdings LLC, Gary
Wassner, and designer Lisa Perry. Fashion industry pro Fern Mallis will also be in attendance.
The top prize includes an impressive $25,000 for the winner to build their brand, the production of an item and a yearlong mentorship with the industry pro jurors. Caleres and the Fund have also teamed up with Roopal Patel of RPC Consulting to develop a design challenge for the six finalists.
The Caleres Emerging Designer Award comes at an exciting time for the company, which has recently undergone a transformational rebranding and name change that will help further position the footwear leader as an innovator and major global player in the world of fashion footwear. The company is committed to strengthening the local fashion and retail communities through its partnership with the Saint Louis Fashion Fund and Saint Louis Fashion Week.
“Some of the values we live by every day as a company include curiosity, creativity and passion,” said Diane Sullivan, CEO, president and chairman of Caleres. “The Emerging Designer competition embodies those values, and we are always inspired by the designers that participate. Each year the bar is raised—we can’t wait to meet the candidates this year.”
To be considered, applicants are encouraged to apply through the Saint Louis Fashion Fund website through July 1.
