Stl250 has announced the top 50 public vote winners for Cakeway to the West—a program that’s part of the city’s 250-year anniversary celebration—where 250 four-foot-tall cake sculptures will be placed at some of the area’s top locations and destinations. The winning locations run from iconic St. Louis stalwarts such as Grant’s Farm and the Gateway Arch, to some places with which you may not be familiar, like Sappington House.

The public was invited to cast their votes in five categories: Landmark Sites, Heritage & Culture, Innovation, The Great Outdoors and St. Louis Favorites. The cake sculptures are highly coveted by local organizations, as each will serve as a rallying point as people learn more about each location and explore St. Louis’ history.

The remaining 200 cake locations—all of which will be decorated by local artists—have been chosen by community leaders and will be announced on Feb. 14 at a birthday weekend press conference. Moreover, the cakes are interactive thanks to a smartphone app developed by Arch Grants winner Candy Lab. The app will not only help people locate the cakes, but will provide information about each location as users earn points toward a sweepstakes drawing. The app will be launched on opening day of the celebration, Feb. 14.

The winners are a diverse group. “Some are expected and others are a wonderful surprise,” says Erin Budde, Executive Directory of stl250.
