STL Sessions:15 Questions With Arthur And Chuck Of Arthur & The Librarian
This Friday, Arthur & The Librarian headline the mini music festival descending on the streets of Downtown during ALIVE’s popular Handmade Happy Hour event. Bandmates Arthur and Chuck Crittenden sat down with ALIVE to talk about what’s next for their band.
Later this year, Arthur & The Librarian are releasing their second record “The Island of the Lotus Eaters.” Band leader, Arthur Crittenden, explains how it is somewhat a concept album, “It is loosely based on our interpretation of the Greek myth and also toys with the whole man-as-an-island idea. We recorded everything in our homes over the past year, so we are excited to share it!”
After they entertain the crowd at Handmade Happy Hour on Friday night they have a short break before playing on Aug. 26 at The Sheldon Concert Hall. “We’re playing for Letter To Memphis’ CD release show, which is another great STL band,” Crittenden explains. Arthur & The Librarian’s founding members include Arthur, who plays guitar, piano and sings and Aubrey Howard, who began playing music together about four years ago. “Aubrey and I began playing music together as friends and wrote a bunch of songs. When the time came to start playing gigs we begged Chuck, my brother, and Chris, a buddy for many years, to join us. Then eventually we convinced our friend Sean to help us out on bass.”
Before we let Arthur and Chuck get to work on our “15 Questions” series, we asked them to share one thing most people don’t know about the band. “Aubrey lives in Chicago and commutes to every show, although she has missed 2 or 3 for various reasons! Also, the house that we started having band practice in has been a practice spot for other STL acts like Aaron Kamm and The One Drops and Dear Vincent,” Arthur shares.
Check out their answers below and we will see you at Handmade Happy Hour this Friday!
