Things are looking pretty sweet for local pastry chefs Lia Weber and Al Watson following the news that the baking duo will compete on the fourth season of TLC’s “Next Great Baker.” The competitive baking television show puts ten, two-man teams made up of the nation’s best bakers in a head-to-head challenge for a $100,000 grand prize and an opportunity to work for Buddy Valastro, from TLC’s “The Cake Boss,” at The Venetian in Las Vegas.

Weber and Watson are co-workers at Wedding Wonderland Cake Shop, located at 449 Dunn Rd. in Florissant, and Weber is also the pastry chef at Hendel’s Market Cafe. The two are not only the sole team from the St. Louis area, but are also the lone Midwesterners going up against fierce competition from across the country. Judges for “Next Great Baker” also pose to be a formidable challenge – between the highly acclaimed chocolatier, Jacques Torres, and Magnolia Bakery’s own, Bobbie Lloyd.

The fourth season featuring Weber and Watson debuts on Tuesday, June 24 at 8pm. Watch parties will be held at Yacovelli’s Restaurant and Banquet Center, located at 407 Dunn Rd., as well as at Hendel’s Market Cafe, located at 599 St. Denis St.
