STL Interior Designer Jessie Miller competes for HGTV’s Design Star Title
Ever dream about starring in your very own reality show on a huge network? St. Louis-based interior designer and self-proclaimed design daredevil Jessie Miller hopes to turn that dream into a reality as a finalist on this season’s edition of “HGTV Star,” the drama-filled competition series that features 10 talented interior designers vying for a chance to win your votes and a huge grand prize—their very own show on HGTV.
Citing her biggest inspiration as interior design extraordinaire Kelly Wearstler, Miller describes her own design aesthetic as “glamorous with a street edge.” Shying away from the casual interiors that are currently trending in the industry, Miller enjoys hand-picking luxe, one-of-a-kind pieces that can turn a space from aged and rustic to formal and fun. “I love the idea of living a casual life in a formal space,” Miller says. “I think it’s totally glamorous to munch on popcorn in your PJs on a velvet tufted sofa under a crystal chandelier.” Music and fashion also play an important role in her design process: “Fashion for colors, pattern, [and] materials…music for the way it makes me feel.” Her jams of choice include anything from Miike Snow to Jay-Z, who keep her pumped even when the pressure mounts.
The show, which premiers in just a few short weeks, has already opened its polls, allowing viewers to cast their votes for Fan Favorite—which, in Jessie’s eyes—”would be a bigger honor than being accepted by TV producers.” Crediting her small-town upbringing in St. Paul, MO, for her down-to-earth personality, Miller admits she would love to earn the acceptance of her home base by showcasing her hard work and talent.
Well, Jessie, you had us at “velvet tufted sofa.” Catch Jessie in action on “HGTV Star” beginning Sunday, June 9 at 7pm, and give her some hometown love by voting for her as Fan Favorite at http://fanvote.hgtv.com.
