Curator Sofia Hedman requested the addition of one of Michael’s footwear creations into the exhibit after she received a private viewing of his most recent collection. “It’s a bit overwhelming,” says Michael of the honor, “I feel that I am going to need to let it sink in.”

The footwear collection—which recently made its debut on the runway of STLFW—is a first for the knitwear designer. Michael designed and assembled the shoes using leather, metal hardware and wooden soles that were carved by local wood artisan, Cathy Roth. They were inspired by the idea of a raw gemstone—rough around the edges, but beautiful and 100 percent unique.

The honor of being showcased amongst international fashion royalty is a huge one and is another notch on the belt of one of the city’s most talented fashion designers.
