St. Louis Celebrates National Train Day

Union Station in St. Louis celebrates National Train Day today. At 10am, head down to the historic station for “Tracks of History,” which includes a full day of activities, entertainment and events.

Whether you bring the whole family, arrive with friends or head down to Union Station by yourself, there will plenty of ways to celebrate the history of the locomotive.

South Plaza/Lake View Area

Live Train Cars and Locomotives, 10am – 6pm
Plan to see a Norfolk Southern, heritage locomotives from Union Pacific, a lifesaver exhibit car and Amtrak cars like an Amfleet Coach Car, dining car and more.

Activities, 10am – 6pm
Activities include a metro bus display, the Missouri History Museum 250 in 250 Banner Show, exhibits from the Illinois Dept. of Transportation and Missouri Highway Patrol, train rides for the little ones and even a Circus Harmony trapeze show.

Food, 10am – 6pm
Enjoy food from Hard Rock Café, sample Anheuser Busch brews, try out Dr. Pepper vanilla floats and food from the St. Louis Union Station Hotel that resembles items sold at the 1904 World’s Fair.

Music, 2pm – 6pm
Listen to music from the Fair St. Louis Dixieland Band, Johnny Chase, the Florissant Men of Harmony and The Pedestrians.

Trainshed, indoor lower level

Activities, 10am – 6pm
Check out an STL250 birthday bash, the numerous book signings by local celebrities, Fred Bird visiting the crowd and much more.

Trainshed, indoor upper level

Entertainment, 10:30am – 2pm
The show goes on with performances by the Muny Kids, and different middle school and high school students. Stop by for multiple acts.

Historical Displays
Don’t forget to look for exhibits and displays from the likes of the National Railway Historical Society, MO Pacific, American Railroad Passengers, Morse Telegraph and more.

Midway —Model Train Exhibits, 10am – 6pm
Fans of model trains should not miss creations from the Gateway Garden Railroad Club, Mesa Grande Railroad, Midwest Live Steamers, the Southern Illinois Train Club, the Boeing Employees Railroad Club and the Mississippi Valley n’ Scalers. Exhibits stay open all day.

Reinvented Grand Hall

Spectacular 3-D Light Show, 11am and every hour on the hour
Whatever you do, don’t miss the amazing 3-D light shows that go on throughout the late morning and afternoon. Enjoy accompanying music from Phil Woodmore, the Guitar Society and ragtime pianists Dave Majchrak and Gerry Moore.
