Saint Louis Fashion Week Preview

Featuring five nights of fashion, this season is centered on local designers, STL retailers and the new fall fashions youll want to score as soon as possible. Heres a look at the big names and big shows at Saint Louis Fashion Week, September 7-11.

The Show: Brown Shoe Presents Project: Design!
The Essentials: Tuesday, September 7; 6pm-10pm at Third Degree Glass Factory (5200 Delmar Blvd., The Loop)
Why It’s A Must-See: If you know “Project Runway,” then you know the gist—only all of the contestants are from your hometown, and all of St. Louis had a say in which designers advanced; the six finalists who will present collections were chosen via online voting. In what’s become a Saint Louis Fashion Week tradition, past competitors have included “Project Runway: Season 8” contestants AJ Thouvenot and Michael Drummond, who took the top prize at Project:Design! during the Spring 2009 season.

The Show: Rock’n The Runway At Saks Fifth Avenue
The Essentials: Wednesday, September 8; 6pm Select Pre-Party, 7pm Runway Show, 8pm Shopping at Saks Fifth Avenue (1 Plaza Frontenac, Frontenac)
Why It’s A Must-See: Because a “band at Saks” is arguably as special as Breakfast at Tiffany’s, the second show of the week is bound to be memorable. Counting on live entertainment to provide the night’s soundtrack, Saks Fifth Avenue knows that rock ‘n‘ roll and fashion go together like guns and roses. Tap your foot as you take in the latest by the likes of Rebecca Taylor, Theory, Rock & Republic, Versace Men and Jimmy Choo. The band will play on as you shop your favorite looks; though you may be tempted, please refrain from moshing near the Chanel. Proceeds benefit St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

The Show: The Magic Of Macy’s
The Essentials: Thursday, September 9; 6pm Select Pre-Party, 7pm Runway Show, 8pm Shopping at Macy’s (1550 Saint Louis Galleria, Brentwood)
Why It’s A Must-See: If you spend a borderline-obscene amount of energy coming up with reasons to hit Macy’s for your fashion fix (i.e., you have a coupon, your credit card is getting bored, the latest Jessica Simpson booties are calling your name), you can relax; the fact that you must attend a fashion show featuring new-for-fall INC International Concepts, RACHEL Rachel Roy, Coach, Calvin Klein and many more is a no-brainer. With 100 percent of the ticket proceeds benefiting HavenHouse St. Louis, it’s a shame you can’t reschedule one of the night’s many draws for the next time you want to hit your favorite department store.

The Show: Indulge At Plaza Frontenac
The Essentials: Friday, September 10; 6pm Select Pre-Party, 7pm Runway Show, 8pm Shopping at Plaza Frontenac (1701 S. Lindbergh Blvd., Frontenac)
Why It’s A Must-See: If shopping’s your cardio, you better hit the gym. Your favorite Plaza Frontenac stores (including Eileen Fisher, Cole Haan, BCBGMaxAzria, Tiffany & Co. and Kate Spade) are joining forces to bring you a live catalog of sorts featuring the best of their best fall merchandise. Take notes from your seat à la Anna Wintour (sunglasses not encouraged) on what your cool weather wardrobe simply will not work without—then make a beeline for the appropriate retailers and forgo aimless browsing. Getting geared-up for the season has never been so easy. Proceeds benefit FGI.

The Show: Bud Select Presents Liquid Style
The Essentials: Saturday, September 11; 7pm Select Pre-Party, 8pm Fashion Show at Old Post Office Plaza (9th & Locust St., Downtown), 10pm After Party at The Pepper Lounge
Why It’s A Must-See: If you have yet to make it to the area’s newest shops, now is your chance to get personal with the goods you’ve been hearing about through the grapevine. Featuring fall looks from five hot rookie retailers (NV on Washington, Klutch in Town & Country, Rung in Rock Hill, Boutique 83, and The Eye Bar in the
Central West End and Sole & Blues—which isn’t “new” so much as a mainstay in The Loop, but has recently relocated, resulting in drastically-expanded inventory), an under-the stars runway will serve as an ideal setting for the fresh-and-sexy lineup.
