Runway Recap: Saint Louis Fashion Fund Emerging Designer Competition Presented By Brown Shoe Company
It was all energy, style and a forward look at Spring 2015 last night on the STLFW Union Station runway as six talented emerging designer finalists showcased their newest collections in front of an elite panel of jurors led by New York Fashion Week creator Fern Mallis.
The expert judging panel chosen by Mallis included: Refinery29’s Editor-In-Chief Christene Barberich, fashion financier Gary Wassner, renowned fashion designer Stan Herman, designer Tess Giberson, Senior Fashion Director for Saks Fifth Avenue Colleen Sherin and VP of Marketing for Naturalizer Marci Ranger, who offered finalists priceless connections, advice and exposure, the second their collections hit the runway. Collina Strada, Harbison, Wai Ming, Daniella Kallmeyer, Jessie Liu and Remi Canarie impressed the St. Louis fashion set with six very unique views of “what’s next” in fashion, but ultimately, only one would walk away with the $15,000 award.
After careful deliberation, the jurors had two designers in the running, and in a surprising turn of events, fashion financier Wassner announced that he would offer the first runner-up a $3,500 award on behalf of his firm. He personally presented the honor to Charles Harbison.
For the big win, Daniella Kallmeyer’s minimalist collection of easy and fashion-forward pieces took home the award—$15,000, presented by the Saint Louis Fashion Fund and Brown Shoe Company. It was an all-around fantastic (and record-breaking) evening for fashion in St. Louis.
