St. Louis couples share their engagement stories.

The Couple: Michelle Frossard, 28 & Paul Paradoski, 25

How We Met: Paul and I met in college at Southeast Missouri State where I played soccer and he played basketball. We had some mutual friends and knew each other just from being athletes at a fairly small school, but we never really hung out. It wasn’t until we were both back in St. Louis after college when we really “met.” We ended up both buying a condo in Ballwin a building away from each other and ran into one another at a nearby restaurant and realized we were neighbors. One night I got stranded at my condo and went down to see if I could borrow a phone charger. We ended up talking for a long time, and the next day, we went to the Cardinals home opener together with some friends.

The Proposal: He had planned a surprise for my birthday and took me to a nice dinner at the Four Seasons on the rooftop. At dinner he was acting a bit weird, but I didn’t think much of it. After dinner we were going to have a couple of drinks outside before meeting up with friends. We went outside and the manager greeted us and took us to a cabana overlooking the Arch. There was a bottle of champagne, chocolate covered strawberries and rose petals. I was shocked when I saw everything and thought he was really going overboard for my birthday. When we sat down he handed me a really sweet birthday card, and then next thing I knew, he was getting on one knee and asking me to marry him. The manager came back over and said he had one more surprise— we walked out from the cabana and all of our family and friends were there to surprise me.
