Recently Ringed: Maria Landram, 24, and Brian Benson, 27
This St. Louis couple shares their engagement story.
How We Met: Brian and I met at Southeast Missouri State University when I was a freshman and he was a junior. We were both in the Greek system and had mutual friends. After going out with some friends one night, we ended up at his fraternity house where we officially met. One Friday afternoon I got a call from Brian asking me to his fraternity dance the next night. I said, “yes,” and frantically called all my friends in search of a dress to borrow on such short notice. Brian picked me up at the sorority house with a rose in hand and was a total gentleman the whole night.
The Proposal: Throughout our five years of dating, Brian had always been a romantic, so when he suggested a picnic in Forest Park, it didn’t seem too out of the ordinary. Brian offered to gather all the food since I usually do all the planning. When he began setting up our picnic, I realized he had gotten all my favorites. We had a great picnic and really enjoyed ourselves, but I noticed towards the end of the picnic he began rambling about totally random topics. Right before we started packing up to leave, Brian handed me the ring and started talking. I can’t remember a word he said because I immediately jumped in and said, “Yes!” before he could even finish asking me to marry him.
