The Couple Heather Kemper, 31, & Robert Hussey, 32
How We Met: My best friend dragged me to a happy hour one evening because she was meeting her new boyfriend, and going alone was not an option. Being the good friend I am, I went…but not without dragging my feet. When we got there, she was on Cloud Nine and didn’t need me as a crutch. I, however, was bored, but not for long. This very handsome, confident guy walked right up to me and started talking. Usually I would be annoyed, but there was something about him that drew me in, and we talked the rest of the evening. My best friend even ended up leaving me behind, but I didn’t mind. Rob and I discovered we were both divorced, both had amazing children and both loved to dance. We exchanged numbers. Although Rob had to leave the next day for Florida for a two-week family vacation, we had our first date as soon as he returned.
The Proposal: One day, with what I thought was a sporadic decision, Rob said that since it was a gorgeous Saturday afternoon, we should go to Mount Pleasant Winery. I had never been to any Missouri wineries. We sampled wine and devoured gourmet cheese; we walked and talked about the day, the wine and us. Before I knew it, he was down on one knee, asking if I would be his future, his wife. I never thought I would want to marry again, but through uncontrollable tears I said, “with all my heart.”
The Big Day: May 30, 2010.
