Two newly engaged St. Louis couples share their love stories.
Chelsea Williams, 23 & Josh Dickson, 26
Occupations: I am an assistant account executive at H&L Partners and Josh is the driver manager at Gordon Trucking, Inc.
First Date: Josh was a member of Mizzou’s ice hockey team and the biggest game of the season was, of course, the MU vs. KU game. We were just friends at the time, and he invited me to visit Columbia for the weekend to watch the game and hang out.
The Proposal: Josh was sent to Seattle for a week of training for his new job, and since neither of us had ever been to Washington, we decided to make a little getaway out of it. I flew up for the weekend and we planned on spending Saturday hitting all of the Seattle must-sees with Josh’s Washington-native coworker and his wife. Before heading into the city, we started the day by grabbing coffee on Alki Beach and walked along the water with the Seattle skyline in view just across the Puget Sound. He had us walk out on a long, skinny wooden dock to take a photo—that’s when, to my utter surprise, he dropped down onto one knee and popped the question!
Together we like to: We love to spend time outdoors. Some of our favorites include biking, fishing, taking our dogs to the park and spending a day at the winery.
Ideal St. Louis date night: We love attending St. Louis Blues, Cardinals and Rams games.
Believe it or not: We create imaginary personalities for our dogs—for example, we pretend that they hate each other now, but that once we all live together they’ll become best friends (like in the movie “Stepbrothers”).
Our relationship in three words: Humorous, happy and romantic.
Home Sweet Home: For now, our plans are to stay in the St. Louis area, but we’re still young and always open to new opportunities!
The Big Day: June 21, 2014, at The Barn at Chaumette Vineyards & Winery.
Stephanie Bolby, 27 & Bahattin “Bo” Ozkok, 36
Occupations: I am a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital, and Bo is a software engineer at Varian Medical Systems.
First Sight: One of my close girlfriends introduced us at Lucas Park Grille. I remember he had a great smile, was easy to talk to and was constantly cracking jokes.
First Date: We were friends for a long time, but our first real date was at Bar Italia. We danced and talked the entire night. We realized we had feelings for each other more than friendship that night, and have been inseparable since.
The Proposal: He proposed to me in Paris at a great restaurant called Le Grand Colbert. Bo chose it because he is a big fan of Jack Nicholson and it was featured in the movie “Something’s Gotta Give.” Earlier that day, we put a lock on the Pont de l’Archevêché. It was a nice way to leave our little mark in the city of love. Following the proposal, we flew to Turkey to announce and celebrate our engagement with Bo’s family.
Together we like to: We enjoy traveling, wine, trying new restaurants, movie nights, concerts at The Pageant, dancing at Bar Italia on International Night and walking with our puppy in The Loop or the Central West End.
Our song: “Lovesong” by Adele. We plan to make this our first dance at the wedding.
The Big Day: September 20, 2014, at St. Agatha Church, followed by a reception at Moulin.
