Real Weddings: Lucky in Love

A second chance to get to know each other brought this couple closer than ever before.

Erica and Brandon ran in the same circles in high school, but it wasn’t until he returned from a stint in the U.S. Marine Corps that they went from acquaintances to admirers. They clicked instantly while hanging out with mutual friends, and three months into dating, Brandon told Erica he intended to marry her. On New Year’s Eve that year, he made good on his promise, as he got down on one knee just after midnight at a friend’s house party. On April 24, the couple exchanged vows in front of 125 of their closest friends and family members.

The Venue: The Thaxton (314.323.3146) served as an all-inclusive site, with each part of the big day—the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception—taking place on a different floor of the historic multi-level facility. The ornate Art Deco environs struck a perfect balance of fun and formality.

The Attire: Erica (25, Account Manager at Business Training Library) was every bit the beautiful bride in a head-turning Mori Lee A-Line gown from Happily Ever After Bridal in Chesterfield (636.536.3837). Strappy, bejeweled heels from Wild Pair and Swarovski earrings—a day-of gift from Brandon (26, Value Stream Lead at Mark Andy, Inc.)—complemented the intricately beaded bodice. Bridesmaids sported sophisticated black chiffon deep V-neckline Maggy London dresses accented with silver brooches.

The Sweets: Whipt Cream in Chesterfield (636.532.0020) concocted an ultra-creative cupcake tower with a six-inch round on top. Charm-like diamond ring, black bow tie and wedding dress sugar dollops decorated each minitreat, and a fondant bride and groom figurine topper added a touch of whimsy.

The Florals: Chic Events by Angie worked wonders with all white flowers. A bundle of star lilies made up Erica’s bouquet, and bridesmaids cradled long-stemmed white calla lilies bunched by a black ribbon. Reception centerpieces featured more white florals submerged in tall, skinny cylinder vases.
