Real Wedding: A St. Louis Celebration

 In Feature, Style

Katie Armstrong and Brian Maileys dream wedding included a St. Louis-centric day that would show out-of-town guests their favorite gems of the city.

The Ceremony: The couple exchanged mid-morning vows at The Old Cathedral (Basilica of St. Louis). Immediately after, a specially reserved tram at the nearby Arch gave guests the chance to catch a spectacular view of The Lou.

The Celebration A four-hour afternoon cocktail party at the Four Seasons’ eight-floor outdoor terrace ( stlouis) featured live music by a lead female singer and five-piece band Arvell and Company (314.721.9090,, butlered cold and hot hors d’oeuvres and tapas and carving stations. Fresh off dance lessons, Katie (30, Law Student, Law Clerk, Orange County District Attorney’s Office, and Registered Nurse at a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) and Brian (31, Chief General Surgery Resident at University of California at Irvine) performed a choreographed jazz/swing dance to “Bei Mir Bis Du Schoen.”

The Outing: In the early evening, almost all of the 150 guests departed on a trolley tour of St. Louis—organized by the bride and groom, a native St. Louisan, to show off the gems of the city—with stops at Forest Park, Cafe? Eau, Busch Stadium, Broadway Oyster Bar and the final destination, Laclede’s Landing.

The Sweets: Decorative crystal decanters filled with lemonade and iced tea delivered a refreshing drink on the warm, summer evening. A three-tiered, multi-flavored vanilla and chocolate cake and a chocolate fondue fountain with cakes, cookies and fresh fruit made for delectable after-dinner desserts.
