Real Wedding: A Formal Affair

St. Louis couple Mareka Barrett and Adam Jones planned a traditional big day that included their love of jazz and gospel music.

The Theme: The wedding theme—a throwback to the Harlem Renaissance—lent to an extremely formal affair. Cosmopolitan Events (cosmopolitanevents.com), coordinated the day of the memorable wedding, that featured jazz and gospel music and sharply dressed guests. Mareka (36, Event Planner for Barnes-Jewish Hospital) and Adam (35, Options Trader for Wells Fargo) exchanged vows at the University of Missouri-St. Louis’ Provincial House Chapel.

The Party: Jazz music during a cocktail hour at St. Louis University’s Wool Ballroom continued the theme of the day, and then family friend DJ Needles switched things up a bit with dance music that got everyone up and moving after a dinner buffet by the school’s caterer, Chartwells.

The Decor: Satin champagne-colored chair covers from All Seasons Linen (314.983.0090, allseasonslinen.com), chocolate runners and homemade crystal-tree centerpieces decorated the dinner tables. Fancy pens and a spiral-bound book filled with blank, black pages invited guests to sign special congratulations.

The Favors: Gold boxes with chocolate-covered cookies decorated with the words “thank you” served as sweet take-home treats.
