Real STL Spaces: Treasures Abound In Clayton Couple's Airy Abode
Artist and nanny Julie Hill and husband Danny, drummer for STL-based band The Free Years, have created a space that combines estate finds with handmade art pieces within their apartment in the Hi-Pointe area of Clayton, Missouri. Pup Petey Hill—professional snuggler and part time model—definitely approves.

How would you describe the decor in your home?
Eclectic, mid-century modern with classic elements. I love plants, oil paintings and faux tortoise shells. It’s confusing.
What was your inspiration behind your decor and home organization?
When I walk into a space I’m inspired by the architecture, layout and lighting. When we moved into our apartment, I had a vision inspired by the space. It has really great light, so I tried to make everything fresh and clean.
What are some of your favorite places to purchase home decor items?
I have a solid collection of items from estate sales, antique stores, Target, Ikea, and K. Hall Designs.
What is your favorite part of your home and why?
It’s really hard to pick a favorite room but I would probably go with our living room. It’s where my husband and I spend most of our time watching “X-Files” and laughing at our weird dog. It’s where we can relax and be a family.
Do you have a favorite individual piece of furniture, decor or art? Why is it so special?
Most of our large pieces of furniture have history that make it unique to us. Our dining room table and our bed were passed down by our grandparents. My husband built our entertainment center and our coffee table so it’s hard to pick just one piece!
