Pulitzer Arts Foundation and Farfetched Host Jazz Vocalist Somi
Since 2016, Farfetched has partnered with Pulitzer Arts Foundation for a summer music series. Now, they are gearing up for its fall performance on Oct. 5 with award-winning vocalist and songwriter Somi.
Known for her compilation of jazz standards and African music, Somi will perform songs from her 2017 album “Petite Afrique,” “which tells the story of African immigrants in the midst of gentrified Harlem.” The album won the Outstanding Jazz Album award at the 2018 National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Awards.
Founded in 2011 by visual artist and musician Damon Davis, Farfetched is an independent collective supporting local and national musicians. Working in tandem with another Farfetched member, Darian Wigfall, the Farfetched Presents series has hosted Samora Pinderhughes, Loren D and O negative, among several others. The collective also hosts additional events around St. Louis, including a weekly open mic at Champs on Jefferson.
Prior to Somi’s performance, guests are invited to view the Pulitzer’s newest exhibitions, “Life Works” and “Picturing Mexico.” Tickets range from $12 to $20 and are available for purchase online.
