The rock ‘n’ roll-inspired collection was the perfect mix of edgy punk and couture fashion with a touch of whimsy. Although all of the contestants held impressive showings, it was Alvarenga’s impressive handmade craftsmanship that led her to the big win.

“I’m so excited to have been part of the 2014 Pins and Needles program,” Alvarenga tells ALIVE. “Winning this means so much to me, and I can’t wait to show my new collection at St Louis Fashion week in October!”

In addition to her pending STLFW showing, the designer walked away with several other prizes including a lookbook shot by fashion photographer Attilio D’Agostino and a gift package from Babylock.
