Photos: The Randy Dandies' 'Game of Thongs' Burlesque at Plush
The Randy Dandies brought their patented brand of bawdy pop culture humor to Plush on Saturday, and thrilled the packed concert hall with “Game of Thongs,” a show poking fun at the fantasy genre of films and television shows. The hall wasn’t the only thing that was packed. So was the show, featuring not only the semi-improvisational, kinda-scripted show itself, but frequent diversions into tasteful Burlesque strip acts, a pole dancer, fire breather and the Exotic Rhythms Belly Dance troupe, who performed with swords. The Dandies can’t be accused of not delivering your money’s worth.
“Game of Thongs” was one of four big original pop culture shows the Dandies perform each year, led by Laura Coppinger, who also performs as Mimi Le Yu. “Thongs” not only referenced the HBO hit TV series “Game of Thrones,” but included parts or characters from “Pirates of the Caribbean” and the “Lord of the Rings” movies. The super-fast paced evening was a “Choose Your Own Adventure Night,” where the audience decided by applause which direction the story would go, with the cast scrambling to fulfill the audience’s wishes.
It all made for a relaxed evening of fun and frolic that had the feeling of goofing around with friends rather than a formalized show, thanks to the relaxed manner of the performers. Not to say the show didn’t bust out with some dynamic, high-energy acts—it did, and the evening was rich in exciting, memorable moments.
ALIVE is happy to publish these exclusive photos of just a few of the evening’s highlights. To keep updated on The Randy Dandies and their next performance, follow them on Facebook.
