Several local spots are set up to satisfy your sweet tooth this summer. We gathered a few of our favorites for a mini interview to get to know the people behind the tastiest new summer treats, starting with John Clopton of Frostbite Gourmet Ice Cream!

1. What’s one thing that sets your food apart?
I make ice cream using old-fashioned wooden churns that use rock salt and ice. It’s very old school and each batch takes about two days to make.

2. Did you eat your veggies and a kid?
I always got along with green beans and corn as a kid, but I had a hate/hate relationship with my archenemy, broccoli and his henchman cauliflower. To this day we still don’t get along.

3. What’s your favorite kitchen gadget?
If I said ice cream scoop, that’d be too obvious. A few years ago I bought a decent pair of chef knives and now I wonder how I survived without them for so long.

Next up we have Rebecca Pattan of The Hive.

1. What’s one thing that sets your food apart?
The great variety of flavors available. We have 200 flavors and blends to choose from. Yum!

2. Did you eat your veggies and a kid?
I always loved my veggies.

3. What’s your favorite kitchen gadget?
Don’t know if this counts as a gadget but my 48″ professional gas range always gets a workout!

We caught up with Kia Springer of NATIVE Pops and asked her to share some thoughts about her frozen treats.

1. What’s one thing that sets your food apart?
The thing that sets NATIVE Pops apart from other frozen treats is that we use no additives or binders. It is 100 percent pure delicious food in every pop. We source as many local ingredients as we can—produce, honey, coffee, anything we can find. If we can’t find it local, we buy organic. So every pop is handmade with amazing pure ingredients. We have sophisticated flavors like pineapple jalapeno, blackberry sage and peach lavender, to classics like strawberry watermelon and coconut. The list goes on! We take pride in small batches where we can focus on flavor and add lots of love.

2. Did you eat your veggies and a kid?
I did eat my veggies as a kid! Although I feel like I was forced to eat a lot more than I wanted. But then I grew up to work on two juice bars and go to a vegan-vegetarian based culinary school. So I ended up having a more likable pallet for veggies in the long run. But yes, my mom was very healthy and sure to provide one veggie per meal growing up.

3. What’s your favorite kitchen gadget?
As a chef, a beautiful knife makes a world of difference when you are trying to do anything in the kitchen. I still have my first knife from culinary school. I am also very attracted to Popsicle molds as well.

We reported on perhaps the only mobile doughnut shop in St. Louis that hits the streets last November, Vincent Van Doughnuts. They continue to delight our taste buds and this summer, they made our list of favorite STL summer sweets! We can’t wait to see what they have in store for us at this Saturday’s Hot List party! Will we see you there?
