Openings
Friday, May 16: After closing its doors in Midtown this April, The Shack Restaurant has reopened at its new spot in Valley Park located at 13645 Big Bend Road. The space was formerly home to Wild Agave, another OG Hospitality Group concept that unfortunately shuttered earlier this year. Guests will find much of the same décor found in the Midtown location in Valley Park, but the major difference is that The Shack now serves breakfast, lunch and sometimes dinner (available only Thursday through Saturday). By adding omelets, skillets and smoothies to their repertoire, The Shack brings something new to OG Hospitality group, which also includes The Corner Pub & Grill, The Tavern Kitchen & Bar and Cucina Pazzo. Open Sunday through Wednesday from 7am to 2pm and Thursday through Saturday from 7am to around 10pm. 13645 Big Bend Road, Valley Park, 636.529.1600.

Monday, May 19: Last week Pizzeria Mia opened at the corners of Maryland and Taylor Avenues, just off the main drag of the Central West End. The residential storefront has sat vacant for a few years, but now, proprietor Dado Beganovic has revamped the space as a restaurant featuring pizzas cooked in a wood-burning brick oven. European-style pastries baked in-house are also available along with espresso drinks, coffees and sodas until Pizzeria Mia can acquire a liquor license. Open daily 11am through 11pm. 4501 Maryland Ave., Central West End.

Mid-June: The Grove will soon have a new restaurant and lounge, called Siam, in the former 10,000-square-foot space of Novak’s Bar and Grill at 4121 Manchester Ave. The LGBT-friendly atmosphere will feature sleek, modern designs along with spacious outdoor patio. Owners Steven Preston and Ron Bray have brought Tanya Brown on board as executive chef to develop a Pan-Asian menu with options ranging from Korean hot wings and sliders to a full sushi bar. During May, Siam has been hosting a slew of weekend soft openings, but a grand opening is to be announced for mid-June. 4121 Manchester Ave., The Grove, 314.533.7426.

Fall 2014: News broke last week that The Grove’s Rise Coffee House is set to roll out a food truck this fall. The mobile cafe will be the first of its kind in St. Louis, offering a full menu of espresso drinks and coffees brewed from Blueprint, Goshen and Sump beans along with pastries from Whisk: A Sustainable Bakeshop. Co-owners Nick and Sara Endejan are starting the truck in partnership with Rise owner, Jessie Mueller. The husband-and-wife duo have worked as a manager and barista, respectively, at the storefront and hope to bring the coffee house experience to the streets of St. Louis.
