Friday, June 20: Saint Louis University students coming back from summer break will have a new dining option to enjoy around campus with the opening of Flying Rolls, a fast-casual sushi restaurant at 3674 Forest Park Ave. Unlike a traditional sushi house, Flying Rolls has adapted a Chipotle-esque service model that allows guests to customize menu items to their liking – purists can pick from the house rolls while untraditional options like a teriyaki bowl, rolls featuring cooked fish or even dessert fruit rolls help appeal to sushi naysayers. Delivery is available within the SLU area. Open Monday through Sunday from 11am to 9pm. 3674 Forest Park Ave., Midtown, 314.246.0589.

Saturday, June 21: The Carondelet neighborhood now has a new eatery that’s specializing in hand-cut, all-natural beef jerky. As first reported by Feast Magazine, Uncle Richy’s Home Made Beef Jerky opened on South Broadway last weekend. Four flavors of beef jerky are currently available (barbecue, spicy, original and teriyaki) along with a long list of house-made pickled products, including: Pickled cauliflower, asparagus, broccoli, green beans and traditional cucumbers. A quick deli sandwich can also be picked up at Uncle Richy’s, where a freshly made lunch combo, which comes with chips and a soda, can set you back less than $5. Open Monday through Saturday from 8am to 8pm and Sunday from 8am to 1pm. 7116 S. Broadway, Carondelet, 314.300.8596.

August 2014: Another Carondelet storefront, Stacked Burger Bar, has announced plans to launch a food truck later this summer. As first reported by Feast Magazine, the truck will bring the loaded burgers to the streets with a new mobile menu that won’t skimp on the house-made sauces, jams and slaws. Once August comes a little closer, look for more news on when and where to find the bright orange truck by liking Staked Burger Bar on Facebook and following them on Twitter @stackedstl.

2015: Area developer Show Me Hospitality, announced plans to bring 40 locations of Tim Hortons Cafe & Bakery to the greater St. Louis region beginning in 2015. As first reported by Sauce Magazine, the quick-service concept will offer coffee, baked goods and on-the-go lunch options at both free-standing locations and kiosk-style setups across the area.
