The creative team came together for the sake of fun and fashion on the set of ALIVE Magazine’s March Fashion Editorial, “Purple Haze,” shot on location at the beautiful (and fabulous) Fox Theater in Grand Center. The crew once again joined forces with Saks Fifth Avenue Director of Marketing Tania Beasley-Jolly to develop a concept that combined two very different “royals” and icons in fashion—rock legend Jimi Hendrix and the Duchess of Windsor, Wallis Simpson. The result is an opulent take on the modern woman, who channels an early ’70s rocker with a chic twist. Here’s a closer look:

The wardrobe consisted of looks from a variety of local shopping spots including Saks Fifth Avenue, Retro 101, YuMe, Byrd Designer Consignment, The Vault by WCE and The Designing Block as well as items from stylist and Fashion Editor Sarah Stallmann’s personal collection and select items sent from designer (and STLFW vet) Charles Harbison.
There’s no taming of this mane: Hair stylist Valerie Brown went for full volume for Mother Model Alanna Arrington’s cool coif.
A combined inspiration of Jimi’s love for scarves and Wallis’ poised presence, Stallmann utilized vintage scarves as a common theme throughout.
If you think being in the Fox Theater for a production is great, try having the entire place all to yourself…the energy is palpable!
MUA Kat Hinkle kept Arrington’s pout perfect with Mac beet liner topped with Mac clear gloss.
A chilly set made hand warmers a necessity between takes!
Despite the look of this photo, camo is not a wardrobe requirement to be on ALIVE’s creative team, but it sure was a fun coincidence!
