On Tap: Urban Chestnut Expands to Other Missouri Cities, Schlafly and Sam Adams Brew Red Sox Victory Beer

 In Food

This past spring, Urban Chestnut Brewing Company opened their second brewery, Urban Chestnut Grove Brewery & Bierhall, in The Grove. The brewery has a 450-person bierhall and a full-service kitchen, but the company says in a release that the primary purpose for the second location was to expand Urban Chestnut’s brewing capacity. On Monday, they announced expanded distribution to Columbia and Jefferson City, with plans for Kansas City later in the year. Urban Chestnut is the third largest craft brewery in Missouri, but the company says they were constrained by their capacity, limiting them to distributing primarily in the St. Louis metro area. They’re partnering with the N.H. Scheppers Distributing Co. to distribute their Revolution and Reverence beers to Columbia and Jefferson City, and with Major Brands to distribute to the KC area. 4465 Manchester Ave., The Grove, 314.222.0143 and 3229 Washington Ave., Midtown, 314.222.0143

When the Cardinals faced the Boston Red Sox in the 2013 World Series, the makers of Sam Adams and Schlafly placed a wager on who would win. Riverfront Times reports that Sam Adams founder Jim Koch bet two cases of Boston Lager and a lobster dinner that the Red Sox would win. Schlafly co-founder Dan Kopman bet some Pale Ale, a dinner at Pappy’s, and an all-expenses paid trip for the winners to brew a victory beer in the losing city. As the Cardinals host the Red Sox this week at Busch Stadium, it’s time for Schlafly to pay up. The communications director and a brewer from Sam Adams flew to St. Louis, and Schlafly hosted a dual tap takeover with Sam Adams at the Flying Saucer last night. Today, the two breweries are brewing the “Double Red Rally Cap IPA” at the Tap Room. Eventually, the beer will be on draft there. 2100 Locust St., Downtown, 314.241.2337

Craft Beer Cellar in Clayton is hosting a Meet the Brewer event with Beamer Eisele and the crew from Modern Brewery, the newest addition to the city’s craft beer scene. They’ll talk about their beers and their plans for expansion in St. Louis. As previously reported by ALIVE, Modern Brewery focuses on two “genres” of beer, Belgian Styles and American Craft Styles. Two of their beers will be on draft, and free bottle openers will be given away with the first 50 pours. They’ll also have special pricing throughout the store during the event. The event will be held on Friday, August 8 from 4 to 8pm. 8113 Maryland Ave., Clayton, 314.222.2444
