On Tap: Schlafly Beer Forum at Balaban's, Anniversary Bash At Flying Saucer And Return Of Perennial's '17'
While the brewers across St. Louis are busy working their spring releases, there are still opportunities to enjoy sipping on full-bodied stouts and ales at a few upcoming events. Check out Schlafly’s oatmeal stout at Balaban’s beer forum, Founder’s Scotch ale at Flying Saucer’s anniversary party, Perennial’s Imperial stout called “17” or 2nd Shift’s LSD stout made with Blueprint Coffee. These beautiful brews don’t have to be enjoyed solely in the midst of a harsh winter and still taste great while soaking up the cool springtime sunshine.
Attend a beer forum at Balaban’s on March 19 and learn firsthand from a Schlafly brewery representative about half a dozen of their best brews. Nick Vickery will lead guests through a series of tastings, which will help identify the nuances and trademark characteristics of each style. The beer forum is a great opportunity to pick your favorite from Schlafly’s pale ale, dry hopped American pale ale, kolsch, American IPA, oatmeal stout or hefeweizen. Flying Saucer Draught Emporium
In honor of their first anniversary, Flying Saucer is throwing a beer-centric bash on March 16. The fun begins at 12pm with hourly rare tappings, live music by Coconut Radio and special prices for all burgers and Missouri pints. Look for limited release bottles of 2nd Shift’s “Jester King Boxer’s Revenge,” North Coast’s “Gulden Draak Brewer’s Reserve” and Founder’s “Port Barrel Aged Scotch de Silly” amongst a handful of others. 900 Spruce St., Downtown, 314.932.1456.
Perennial Artisan Ales
In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, Perennial released their annual brew, “17,” earlier this week. The Imperial Stout is a complex blend of chocolate malts, cacao nibs and fresh mint. “17” pours a rich dark brown with a thick head and has deep chocolate and minty aromas. The full-bodied brew has a great malty flavor that’s enriched with cocoa and an almost grassy note of spearmint lingering in the background.
