On Tap: Local Distillery Wins Big At International Competition, Schlafly Bikes Across Iowa

Sauce Magazine reports that local distiller Pinckney Bend won big at the International Wine & Spirit Competition in London. The New Haven-based distillery was awarded two medals—a silver medal for its American rested whiskey and a bronze medal for its American gin. The International Wine & Spirits Competition is a blind tasting of entries from nearly 90 countries, and is now in its 45th year. 1101 Miller St., New Haven, 573.237.5559

Live music, barbecue and beer come together for Urban Chestnut’s Blues & Que at their Midtown Brewery and Biergarten. On Sunday, July 27 from 12pm to 6pm, they’ll have music from Tommy Halloran and Brian Curran and barbecue from Andrew’s Bayou Ribs. Schlafly is making their fourth trip across Iowa by bicycle this week for RAGBRAI, a bike-touring event across the state. This year, they’ve joined Team Good Beer, a group that lets riders know where they can find craft beer in each town along the route. You can follow their progress on Twitter.
