Excel Brewery—housed in the 77-year-old Excel Bottling Co. in Breese, Ill., which produces Ski soda—released its first brew, a German-style Hefeweizen called Shoal Creek Wheat, in September 2012. One year and six labels later, the brewery is celebrating its first anniversary with the release of Ryeday the 13th, a high-gravity beer aged six months in Templeton Rye Whiskey barrels and containing notes of caramel, vanilla, coconut, oak and warming alcohol.

Ryeday’s release party will be held on Sat., Sept. 14 from 2-6pm at Excel Brewery. Tickets are $30 and include a 750 mL bottle of Ryeday the 13th, a commemorative glass, 10 four-ounce beer pours from the Excel lineup (including the new Darkside, a wheat India Black Ale), food and music. Additional tasting tickets and bottles of Ryeday will be available for purchase on-site. Tickets to the event are available at Brown Paper Tickets.
