The STL brewing scene continues to gain outside attention with wins from highly regarded beer festivals. Recently, Perennial Artisan Ales came home from the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild’s 12th annual Festival of Barrel Aged Beers with both gold and silver medals. Perennial’s Abraxas—a barrel-aged Mexican chocolate stout—brought home the highest honor in the festival’s “Experimental Beer” category and grabbed the first runner-up for Best in Show. As reported by Sauce, this marked the second year Abraxas won for the experimental category and the third year it placed with a medal. As for 4 Hands Brewing Co., the local craft brewery’s Volume 2 placed second for the Barleywine/Wheatwine category and the barrel-aged Bona Fide with cinnamon—a special edition of its collaboration with Goshen Coffee—took home the bronze for the Strong Porter/Stout category.
