NYFW Trend Recap, Day 1: VFiles Breaks The Mold While Cynthia Rowley Gives 'The Classics' An Update
New York Fashion Week has officially launched, sending fresh new fashion down the runways and setting the trends for the upcoming season. Here is a rundown of some of our favorites. Click on the designer names to see the full collections through Style.com.
Sending three up-and-coming amateur designers down the runway, VFiles made a huge statement that NYFW isn’t just for the well-established. Brand new brands, ASSK, Melitta Baumeister and Hyein Seo represented well, offering solid debuts among the pros and scoring praise from the ever critical fashion elite.
Cynthia Rowley offered up bold shapes and shifts, giving us the feeling that flood pants may be swinging back around in the near future.
Poster-children for prints, M Missoni did not disappoint with their collection of separates in bold colors and youthful cuts. We loved the baggy shorts that hit just below the knee, paired with boots and accent-colored handbags.
Day 1 was all about “over-sized” and Creatures of Comfort hit the nail on the head with their primary color palette and wrap-me-up fabrics like cotton and velvet. The alien-friendly eyewear was a bonus.
Brandon Sun mixes unconventional silhouettes and fabrications for a collection you have to see to believe. This gold number was one of our favorites.
There was no denying the sheer simplicity of Katie Gallagher’s mostly black collection. Chic and simple with a hint of 90s minimalism, I could personally see myself wearing nearly every piece.
