 In Style

We love it when St. Louisans do great things and next weekend, Neiman Marcus welcomes back one of our own: Elizabeth “Liz” Giardina, the vice president of design at hip, fashion-forward label Derek Lam 10 Crosby, heads back to the Lou for a personal appearance, fashion chat and presentation at Plaza Frontenac’s Neiman Marcus on Saturday, April 18.

Giardina has made big moves in the industry since her upbringing and education in St. Louis (she was an art and sculpture graduate at Washington University), and her impressive resume shows: Giardina’s career started off strong under the wings of several creative directors at major labels including Zac Posen, Ralph Lauren and Halston, where she later moved into a lead role with the creation of the Halston Heritage collection. It was at Halston where she met Derek Lam, and with a twist of fate (and a ton of talent), Giardina hopped on board as the designer and creative force behind Lam’s diffusion label, 10 Crosby, which she has worked to develop since its inception just over four years ago.

Now that the 10 Crosby line is in full force (and earning rave reviews from top editors across the board), Giardina has earned a reputation as one of the hottest young designers in the industry. So what sets 10 Crosby apart from its “mother” line, Derek Lam? “In addition to the price point difference, it’s all about the attitude,” says Giardina. “Where the Derek Lam girl is more ‘uptown’, the 10 Crosby girl is more ‘downtown’. She loves to wear quality designer clothes but she’s definitly more relaxed, the fit is easier and the attitude is a bit more edgy.”

The designer plans to present her spring collection for 10 Crosby, which made a splash at NYFW last fall,¬†at Neiman Marcus on Saturday. referred to the collection as a “clever twist” on classic military-inspired wear, noting the “balancing act between simplicity and maximalism, structure and ease, masculine and feminine, technical and natural, and the list goes on.”

For fall 2015, Giardina shared with us her plans to continue the fluid, masculine-meets-feminine mission the brand specializes in by introducing textures, masculine fabrics, in-house dyes and prints. “We really want to play on that juxtaposition: Great plaid jackets paired with floral pants; wildflower designs on a petrol-colored background; a simple blouse with a French cuff; Scandinavian floral patterns.”

In addition to her appearance at Neiman Marcus, Giardina will also be receiving the Distinguished Young Alumni Award at Washington University.

Mark your calendar for April 18, from 1-3pm for the Fashion Chat and Presentation starring Elizabeth Giardina for Derek Lam 10 Crosby. To RSVP, call 314.994.5053 or email
