Model Of The Month: Kelsey Owens Of Mother Model Management

 In Style

Ballwin native and high school student Kelsey Owens has taken her freshman season at New York Fashion Week by storm. The Mother Model Management model landed an exclusive deal walking for Proenza Schouler, one of the season’s highest regarded shows. The striking 16-year-old is anything but your average cheerleader; her signature blonde hair and bold brows are grabbing the attention of industry heavy-weights across the globe.

How were you discovered? I attended one of Mother Model Management’s open casting calls.

What’s been your favorite modeling moment since you’ve started? Definitely working with Proenza; designers Jack and Lazaro are so down-to-earth and easy to work with, it made the experience so positive and exciting.

Is it difficult to keep your cool with the pressure of walking in such a high profile show? Yes! I managed to stay focused and get in the zone once it came time to walk. After the show the whole experience felt totally surreal.

Describe your personal style. I love bright colors and pieces that lean more toward the edgier side of fashion.

Tell us something you are currently obsessing over. Spikes on everything! I love hardware embellished pieces, studs and spikes, the more the merrier.

What would you be doing if you weren’t modeling? I would be in high school and cheerleading. Currently I am taking classes and doing homework while traveling for work.

Tell us something unique about you. I did gymnastics until I was in the eighth grade and it was really instrumental in helping me feel comfortable performing, etc. in front of others, which ironically goes hand-in-hand with modeling.

What’s next for Kelsey Owens? I am headed to Milan and Paris to prepare for more shows, from there we’ll just have to see.
