Metro Lighting Aims To Change The World One Light Bulb At A Time
Around since 1967, Metro Lighting has been family-owned and operated for more than 50 years. The history of the company is not only fascinating, but chock-full of struggles and successes along the way–from it’s origins as an electrical supply delivery business running out of a basement to purchasing their first brick-and-mortar location–Metro Lighting’s trajectory illustrates what a strong STL small business really looks like.
Walking inside their showroom in Brentwood, the first things you notice are the striking wall-to-wall lights, chandeliers and lamps. Every surface is covered with a warm glow rthat permeates through the store. Customers browse through fixtures and converse with the attentive staff.
While there is a lot to look at, each piece is meticulously placed to showcase its beauty. Chandeliers reflect the light perfectly and illuminate the space. Over-sized chairs are tucked into the corners of the room welcoming you to sit. Furniture & home decor is incorporated throughout the showroom to inspire. Every element is done thoughtfully.
Metro may be most proud of its environmental push in St. Louis. The company proudly displays its awards, which include the Department of Energy and EPA’s National Energy Star Award for “Excellence in Retailing” and “Climate Communicators Award.” The commitment the company has to the environment isn’t something that is done for marketing: It’s an initiative that Metro is deeply passionate about and was an early advocate for, long before most in STL.
Currently, Metro Lighting is in the process of converting two of its locations to solar power and its now selling solar panels and accessories to contractors. Metro also promoted electric vehicle chargers through car dealerships and have even purchased energy-efficient cars to encompass the true “green” way. If the world can be saved one light bulb at a time, Metro Lighting has its hand on the switch.
