Saint Louis Fashion Week will kick off its October 2014 season this Friday night as part of the official St. Louis Design Week lineup. The event will feature the St. Louis Fashion Blog Awards followed by a cocktail celebration with the STLFW team including staff, designers, models, hosts, sponsors and partners. The St. Louis Fashion Blog Awards acknowledge the talented fashion, lifestyle and design bloggers residing in the St. Louis area. The community’s top influencers will be honored in categories including photography, content innovation and web design. There will be an official winner and a people’s choice winner in every category.

We caught up with our notable lineup of judges to speak with them about what they are excited for at this year’s event. Introducing Kelly Malone, (Internal and External Communications, Brown Shoe Company), Kendall Ford (Senior Account Executive, Beauty, Siren Public Relations, Inc.), Jennifer Dulin Wiley (Executive Editor, ALIVE Magazine), Sarah King (Owner, Blush Boutique), Justin Whaley (Communications Coordinator, Boxers Inc. & Beverly Hill; Freelance Fashion Writer), Stephanie Lynch (Vice President, Social Media Content Director, Fleishman Hillard), Christine Brennan (Social Strategy and Content, Famous Footwear), Lauren Dunning (Public Relations Coordinator, Neiman Marcus Plaza Frontenac), Elizabeth Hahn-Lawrence (Just Liv, Formerly of The Foundrie) and Jimmy Lesch (Associate Publisher, Vital VOICE).

ALIVE: Why are you excited about the St. Louis Fashion Blog Awards?
Jennifer Dulin Wiley: I love that STLFW has made it a part of its mission to highlight the diverse talents in fashion and lifestyle blogging. It’s so important to have and recognize the many voices contributing to the local scene.

Justin Whaley: The crop of talented writers in St. Louis is surreal and very encouraging to those who aspire to start their own blogs or really own a beat—especially in fashion—at a publication in this city. Not only are these talented people owning a hobby of theirs, but they’re also providing handy information and resources to a hungry audience. Bravo!

Stephanie Lynch: I participated in the Garbage Bag Gala a few years ago at the Moonrise Hotel and was so excited to see the “fashion passion” in St. Louis. Bloggers focused on art and design spark the creativity and innovation necessary to activate progressive urban development. I’ll take my fashion tips from the experts, though. I would never claim my expertise was in fashion rather than social media!

Christine Brennan: The beautiful thing about digital media is that you can become so connected to an individual through something like a blog. You feel as if you know them on a personal level even if you’ve never been in the same room together! The St. Louis Fashion Blog Awards brings these digital fashionistas under one roof for one evening to celebrate their craft… and I can’t wait to see some of my favorite bloggers in the flesh!

Kelly Malone: We truly appreciate the important role bloggers play in our industry, and it is their collective voice that is the undercurrent of what is so exciting in fashion today. It was hard to pick just one winner for every category!

Lauren Dunning: I’m excited about the St. Louis Fashion Blog Awards, because I love supporting creative people. I’m so proud to be a part of a city that is celebrating and recognizing such AMAZING talent. Plus, it shows me you don’t have to be located in NYC or LA to produce a successful fashion blog.

Elizabeth Hahn-Lawrence: I love to see those with a high self-awareness of personal fashion get the recognition they deserve. St.Louis has an amazing fashion scene that is accessible and varied, and local bloggers serve as inspiration for us all.

Jimmy Lesch: I love that ALIVE Magazine and the St. Louis Fashion Blog Awards are giving independent writers the nod they so seldom receive for their hard work.

Sarah King: It’s the official kickoff of STLFW, so I’m so excited about what the team has been able to bring to the table this season! And being a judge for the Blogger Awards gave me the opportunity to explore all these truly fantastic fashion blogs that are based right here in the Lou!
