Meet the Exciting Roster Of Special Guests For STLFW

The Saint Louis Fashion Week special guest list just keeps getting better and better. Here is a look at the celebs, designers and fashion pros who will be rubbing elbows with St. Louisans at the upcoming events:

Fern Mallis


Fern Mallis is the creator of New York Fashion Week. In 2012, Pratt Institute gave her the Fashion Industry Lifetime Achievement Award; and in 2013, she received the Fashion Institute of Technology President’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

You can see Mallis on Oct. 15 at Saint Louis Fashion Fund’s Emerging Designer Competition presented by Brown Shoe Company, where she will help pick a winner from the six finalists who will present their collections at Union Station. She will also be an honorary attendee for the runway events on Oct. 16 and is slated to lead a panel discussion featuring special guests Derek Blasberg (Editor-at-Large, Harper’s Bazaar) and Gary Wassner (Fashion Designer Funding Expert, Hilldun) on Oct. 18 at Washington University’s Steinberg Auditorium.

Derek Blasberg


Derek Blasberg, Editor-at-Large for Harper’s Bazaar, is an American fashion writer, editor and New York Times bestselling author. He is also Editor-at-Large of Vmagazine and VMAN.

Blasberg will be in attendance as an honoree at the Fashion Fund Gala on Oct. 17 as well as on a panel with Fern Mallis and Gary Wassner to discuss the Saint Louis Fashion Fund and will take place at Washington University’s Steinberg Auditorium on Oct. 18.  

Christene Barberich 


Christene Barberich is the Editor-in-Chief and co-founder of the Webby-winning fashion and lifestyle site Refinery29. Prior to launching R29 in 2005, she held posts at Gourmet Magazine, The Daily and The New Yorker. In addition to her editorial and new media work, she has provided brand consulting writing for a mix of fashion and lifestyle clients including American Eagle, Nine West, Prada Beauté, Nike, Yves Saint Laurent and others.

You can catch Barberich on Oct. 15 at Union Station for the Saint Louis Fashion Fund’s Emerging Designer Award presented by Brown Shoe Company where she is one of the jurors.

Stan Herman


Three-time Coty award-winning renowned designer Stan Herman was the President of the Council of Fashion Designers of America for 16 years. He was also the president of 7th on Sixth Corporation – the fashion shows in Bryant Park – for seven years. As the designer for Mr. Mort in the 1960s, his looks made history. Herman is currently America’s foremost designer of robes and loungewear and is the leading uniform designer in the world.

Herman is on the panel of other expert judges for Saint Louis Fashion Fund’s Emerging Designer Award presented by Brown Shoe Company taking place on Oct. 15 at Union Station.

Gary Wassner 


Gary Wassner is the Co-CEO of Hilldun Corporation, a company that provides financing and factoring for many of America’s most iconic designer labels. In addition to running the business, Wassner is a mentor of the CFDA Fashion Incubator and Fashion Law Institute at Fordham.

Colleen Sherin 


As Senior Fashion Director for Saks Fifth Avenue, Colleen Sherin travels the globe in search of trends, inspiration and up-and-coming designers. Sherin covers the women’s ready-to-wear collections in the world’s fashion capitals of New York, London, Milan and Paris and sets the tone for the trends the store will represent each season.  She works closely with her merchants on fashion direction, direct mail catalog imagery and national ad campaigns.

Colleen Sherin can be seen alongside the other jurors for the Saint Louis Fashion Fund’s Emerging Designer Award presented by Brown Shoe Company, offering finalists priceless connections, advice and exposure the second their collections hit the runway.

Tracy Kennard


Tracy Kennard is the founder of Kennard & Daughters, a consultancy that provides brand and business strategy to designers in the fashion and lifestyle space. Kennard & Daughters serves a range of clients with a focus on independent, niche and emerging designers. In addition to running Kennard & Daughters, she is an advisor to NYC Fashion Fellows, an initiative of NYCEDC and 92Y to bring resources and mentorship to rising stars in fashion management. Tracy is also a mentor to the CFDA Fashion Incubator, a business development program supporting the next generation of fashion designers in New York City.

Tracy Kennard will be discussing the Business of Fashion along with Alisha Huls (Attorney, Husch Blackwell) and Melissa Hall (Independent Designer Consultant; Instructor, Fashion Institute of Technology; Founder, at the Oct. 18 Midwest Fashion Conference.

Melissa Hall


Melissa Hall is a Brand Strategy Consultant; a marketing instructor at the Fashion Institute of Technology and the founder of, a New York-based network that provides exposure, resources and consulting services to up-and-coming fashion talent and lifestyle brands. At FIT, she teaches in the School of Continuing Education and Professional Studies Department, the International ESL summer program and Design Entrepreneurs NYC, a mini-MBA program developed by New York’s Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC). She is an advisory board member of Texworld USA, New York Fashion Fellows and is a Mastermind thought leader at the Brooklyn Fashion and Designer Accelerator.

Melissa Hall will be discussing the Business of Fashion along with Alisha Huls (Attorney, Husch Blackwell) and Tracy Kennard (Founder and Brand Strategist, Kennard & Daughters) at the Oct. 18 Midwest Fashion Conference.
