The Pins and Needles Fashion Show takes place at Gallery 400 this Saturday, Aug. 2 and one emerging designer will leave with a top-notch prize package. We have the rundown of the contestants who are vying for the top prize—which includes a spot to showcase their winning collection at Saint Louis Fashion Week this fall.

Jacqueline Madey, Jacqueline Nicole

St. Louis native Jacqueline Madey is the founder and designer of Jacqueline Nicole. Officially founded in 2013, the contemporary clothing line offers something for the social segment of the modern woman’s busy life.

Madey attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri where she earned her BFA in Fashion Design and Product Development in 2013. While in attendance, she had the opportunity to intern for several notable designers, boutiques, stylists and photographers in St. Louis and New York City. Throughout her time at Stephens, Madey received many awards from industry professionals including the Spirit of Fashion Award, Top Scoring Swimwear, Activewear, and Weekend Wear, and the Entrepreneurial Spirit Award. FGI St. Louis awarded her with the honor of Apparel Design Student of 2012.

Since the company was founded, Jacqueline Nicole has hit the ground running. The Fall 2014 collection has created a lot of buzz and has opened up many doors for the brand. In the fall of 2014 Jacqueline Nicole will show the Spring 2015 collection at Phoenix Fashion Week, and is in the process of securing many more runway opportunities across the United States.

Nikki Fizer, No Human Intentions

No Human Intentions was established in 2004 by designer Nikki Fizer with the goal of “making the world an apocalyptic place” with just one girl’s vision and a sewing machine. N.H.I.’s one-of-a-kind designs have sold all over the world and have been featured in numerous magazines and books including Solis Magazine. Having no former training in fashion design but being a self-taught designer, she is free to think outside of the box, and is slated to show her 2014 Fall/Winter collection at Pins and Needles.

Jummy Thomas, Olá

Minnesota-based designer Jummy Thomas created Olá in 2012 as a result of her passion for fashion design and desire to present her unique perspective to the world. She is originally from Nigeria, West Africa which influences her love for vibrant prints and colors. Olá showcases contemporary style and design with hints of African motifs.

Truly Alvarenga, Pink Elephants Designs

Nashville native Truly Alvarenga brings the complete package to her business, Pink Elephants Designs. She has worked on everything from her own collection, to doing wardrobe and custom pieces for music videos, holiday parties and more.

Alvarenga graduated at the top of her class at IADT Nashville with a degree in fashion design and a double internship with the famous Anna Sui in New York. Defining her own path, Alvarenga started Pink Elephants Designs and has been a part of Nashville’s fashion community since 2009.

She concentrates on creating one-of-a-kind, sophisticated and edgy couture designs with intricate layers of detail. Her designs evoke a naiveté of youth, the courage to go from ‘mild to wild’ in the same collection.
